Hi HN,

I'm Vamsi, the founder of Plane(A simple, extensible, open source project and product management tool). Today, I’m here to share our journey with you all.

It all started when we identified some of the most frustrating elements for teams when managing projects, especially with tools that force users to learn complex frameworks. We wanted to create something that was intuitive and easy to use. That's how Plane was born!

We first open-sourced Plane back in November 2022, and the response was great. But it wasn't until we announced Plane on Reddit in April that we saw an incredible surge in popularity. In just under two days, our stars skyrocketed from 150 to 1000+!

Today, I'm thrilled to report that over 1000+ users are actively using Plane, and many are using the self-hosted version. Our approach is simple yet effective. Despite adding multiple layers of abstraction for project management, Plane operates around the central concept of an issue, similar to a block in Notion.

As we continue our journey, we know there's still a lot more to build. We're grateful for the constant feedback we receive from our open-source community, as it's the reason why we're here today.

We value your input and want to encourage you to share any feedback you may have. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have, as we're more than happy to answer them.

Thanks,

I prefer to use Plane as my issue management tool indefinitely, as its user interface is visually appealing and the user experience is exceptionally intuitive. Keep up the great work!

thanks! more power to you using Plane.

so good to see this here. you haven't done justice to how simple Plane is to get started. tools like Jira and others almost mandate tribal knowledge before seeing value. Plane is an example of good first principles thinking and progressive learning on the job. wish you all the success on your journey.

Thank you for your kind words and astute observations. This is very reason we created Plane. While many existing solutions cater to specific methodologies or serve as simple tracking tools, Plane enables users to begin with a basic task tracking tool and progressively adopt various project management frameworks, such as Agile, Waterfall, and many others. These frameworks come pre-built in Plane, making it easy for teams to transition between, blend, or customize methodologies to match their needs and preferences.
