I think this will become even worse in the future.

Remote work is really popular with young people and a lot of young people like to travel the world. Before Covid most of them needed to take a sabbatical but now they can keep working their remote jobs. Staying half a year in Lisbon, the move to Barcelona, than go somewhere else again.

Most remote jobs are rather well-paying, even if you account for a location-based discount.

The messiest part of the whole thing is the tax situation but I guess you can pay someone to figure out how to do that.

I am not sure what a good solution would be but I fully understand that the locals have some real issues with the development.
