"...that they themselves got disrupted." This statement, and your post as a whole, assumes that Wyze is offering something on par with SimpliSafe.
This simply isn't the case. To reinforce the other comment about Wyze's abysmal customer support, Wyze is currently rated Poor on TrustPilot[1^] (just as one example).
Conversely, SimpliSafe's Great rating on TrustPilot, and the NYTimes Wirecutter's Best DIY Home Security System of 2021 speak volumes.
Thought is was funny and interesting. Simplisafe is several hundred dollars in equipment and $24.99 a month and now Wyze (I believe engineers from Amazon started the company) is offering it for
~$5 a month for professional monitoring and free equipment. Simplisafe disrupted ADT etc. yet was so slow to IPO that they themselves got disrupted.
I'm certain that Wyze counts me in their 5 million customer statistic, likely twice, but their policies and customer support is abysmal.
Ordering the Wyze Sense and Wyze Cam V2 for a family member was easy, but Wyze chose to use a mangled version of the PayPal billing address rather than the shipping address their own order confirmation email showed.
It took a full week of working with their support, showing them USPS had declared the parcel as dead (since the mangled address was undeliverable and 3 states away from the correct shipping address) to get a refund.
Wyze won't be able to properly support customers at the $5 a month price point, their hub has no cellular connectivity capabilities and the platform is limited compared to what has come before them (eg: Iris by Lowes). No glass break sensors, smoke detectors,temperature/humidity built into motion sensors, moisture sensors for plumbing, etc.
This simply isn't the case. To reinforce the other comment about Wyze's abysmal customer support, Wyze is currently rated Poor on TrustPilot[1^] (just as one example).
