I've been working on an API for a while. This idea is for anyone to start verifying passports in their app and now I've finally set up the entire business to try and validate this for real. End users could be (drivers / partners / users / fintech compliance) and then I take a payment per verification.

Isn't that too easy to fake? What happens if I just print the letters in a paper?

The MRZ text is just a key, and then you have to tap your phone. What is important is the chip in your passport. Otherwise it will just fail because the text and the chip do not match up.
