I think this argument is backwards. Games will become more like video, in that they are passive consumption, narrative-driven experiences, not the other way around. Most games now still require too much buy-in, too much effort to learn and understand. The format is still an order of complexity above a book or video; it would be better to compare video games to other (immensely popular) games like chess, Go, or Backgammon.


Netflix released that Black Mirror episode that's a sort of 'choose your own adventure' game though.

Not that that necessarily makes me disagree about the effort/buy-in - I still haven't watch/played it.
