My brother works in industry and has hired lots of Veterans. From what he says, the military tends to have paradigms that don't translate well to civilian work - like electricians. So I'd assume 'vets who code' have Perl 6 as their modern language.

I remember a time when decreased murder rates was just a lie by the government. But we all know nobody's more trustworthy than the El Salvadorian regime, especially when it results in an influx of cash.

It's more efficient because you introduce a middleman and ignore pesky regulations. Thank god we've discovered this important thing that's never existed in history and created so much wealth exploiting this very new technological dynamic.

I feel some irony it in being a video one has to sit through rather than crafting it into an actual article made of characters.

Well they make documentaries, not blogs.

[watches the National Geographic channel] “this could have been a blog entry!!”

Steam Dwarf Fortress has sprite graphics and a GUI though ;)

Steam DF graphics look almost exactly like the graphics mod I used when I played DF before it went Steam. I literally couldn't tell the difference upon release.

I was under the impression that steam release was equally about the mouse based ui overhaul, was that also available through mods?

They did make quite a bit of the UI better, yes. While I do use keyboard shortcuts for lots of things still in the Steam version, you no longer have to things and can just use the mouse.

Also a bunch of things that were just completely 100% unusable without DwarfTherapist are bearable now.

I don't remember many specifics tho. It's been a while and I checked yesterday and it seems I don't even have the old folder anywhere any longer.

Oh and DFHack of course. That's still something you want that automates a bunch of things you really don't want to live with otherwise.

I doubt that, what graphics mod did you use?

Obsidian or Ironhand with TWBT

I can always access my email if I have a computer and internet. I cannot access my SMS without my phone. Which, with the sudden battery swelling...

FWIW, this is why I always travel with a spare phone, especially if out of the country.

I've had my laptops battery swell more than any phone

People adapt very easily. If you were trapped on a mountain, you'd likely butcher a cow with the rest of your soccer team. Don't judge everything through the lens of plenty. If you're American, it might be an exercise that becomes useful soon.

If I were trapped on a mountain, I'd likely butcher my soccer team. That's kind of the entire point, that I don't need to be slaughtering cows.

Yeah, the random memecoins he issued and the NFC trading cards were meaningless to him. He's only invested in Truth Social and The Constitution. That's why he's in such competition with the owner of Twitter and would never undercut his social media platform.

What I was trying to point out: his wealth is in real estate and one huge chunk of DJT. No blue chips, no managed funds; nothing that mainstream America and Barack Obama would choose. I contend he attacks the mainstream because of all that.

I'm sure all those billionaires who paid Trump the $1m to grin behind him are dreading the impact on their groceries and upward mobility like the rest of us. Never forget that Trump and Bezos and Zuckerberg truly think of us first and wouldn't be so antisocial as to trade your family for a little bit more.

Because they're wealthy enough to have separation between their 'existence' money and their 'power and status' money. Tank the country and they get to own a little sliver more of it. The cheese and clothes they buy don't change. Because they've got more than plenty.

No that's not what I mean I mean like if I have 99% of my assets in ...business capital (read: mostly stock) what's the plan? I'd have to front-run, but the wealthy own half of the business capital in the US so that's also incoherent because there's just not that much besides other wealthy to front-run.

If the wealthy wanted to buy something up on the cheap that they didn't own, they'd do residential real estate: something that's majority middle class owned (a fun corollary: property taxes are just wealth taxes on the middle class, the proportion of business capital the middle class owns is teeny). However, house prices have gone in the opposite direction as you'd expect from this theory!

It's a shame there's not just an embedded applet. Those were always popular on MU*'s websites in the 2000s. Shame that's not an automatic add.
