It was an accident though, surely, and they didn't mean to hurt the fish.

You mean, they put the fish behind glass in a artificial habitat, which apparently was not built well enough to not break. And you still think humans were just well-meaning? How would you feel if someone took you and your family, and put ya all behind glass, for others to watch? Oh, and there will be an elevator going through your new habitat? Still just fine? I told ya, humans are horrible creatures, they dont even see the errors of their own way.

Dang don't gatekeep so strongly. Sure, no one should litter, obviously; but among those amateur casuals making first trips out into nature are budding, next generation more "hardcore" real adventurers that might pass your standards as they gain more experience. Everyone has to start somewhere.

It's better that some next generation folks are out enjoying nature and building up some care and appreciation for it than not, right?

Agreed, that is insane pricing for this. I guess calling and texting isn't cheap, but maybe could price it per event or something.

Ha, this is what I've done, it's called "moving there". Lived in many countries around the world - you want to learn what it's like to be local, you gotta live there, and for a long while. Even then you're still an outsider. The truth is, we're all always outsiders in the lives of people we don't know, no matter where we are or live.

Thank you for the DFW quotes. He's always amazing. A great, incredibly captivating piece of his on tourism for anyone interested is "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" about a week he spent on a fancy cruise ship.

I think having competitors pass through metal detectors would be helpful.

We built something similar, but focused on cybersecurity news: https://cyber.report/

And we personally curate the articles, no automated scraping :-)

That sounds super interesting and useful, can describe how you're making it work more and how far along you are? I have plans to build something I think is similar.

Misspelt self sovereign identity* oops.

I'm making a frontend client, that lets you setup a vault / wallet. You can then store secrets. I'm working on adding "contacts" (via public key), and then implementing the key split among chosen contacts, and vice versa the recovery scheme.

For backend, I'm making a simple API to act as proxy / intermediary for managing contact requests, sending messages (e.g. sending key shares). No info is revealed to server other than public key info, and encrypted messages.

I was able to make a web only prototype (pure python django) to iron out logic and models. Now I'm about half way through the rewrite in react native since all content needs to be local to the device.

Happy to chat more, would be curious to hear what you're thinking of making. My email is my username @ gmail.

Hmm, my clone of Hacker News but focused on Cybersecurity: https://cyber.report/

For the global audience could add one of the most used apps in the world from China - WeChat, which has pretty distinctive sounding pings. Great work!
