This assumes that the goal is to be Jobs, and I completely agree with the assessment that you need to be schizophrenic. I would like to point out, the expectation is to be detail oriented(execution/expert) while leading a larger org macro goal (learning/strategy). In the right contexts with appropriate resources, this can & does magnify personalities and outputs!

:), clearly. Hilarious episode! Must watch.

Are they pushing stuff to geo-synch orbit? Thats where the big business seems to lie. I thought the article was really vague and surprised it did not talk about Space X and other competitors.

They're targeting 500km LEO. Here are some specs from their homepage[0]:

  Paylod: 110kg
  Orbit: 500km, Sun synchronous
  Stages: 3
         1st stage: 9x "Rutherford"[1] RP/LOX engine
         2nd stage: 1x "Rutherford" RP/LOX engine
         3rd stage: Solid engine)
  Cost: $4.9M

Unfortunate they provide even less information to calculate the plausibility of claimed payloads and orbits then SpaceX. And we all know that SpaceX changed its specs and claims several times, and that none of those specs provide a plausible rocket, if you recalculate it.

I hope Rocket Lab will do better. I just asked them for the missing specs like empty and loaded mass of each stage, maximum and minimum ISP of each stage, maximum and minimum thrust of each stage, burn time of each stage, inclination of launch site, payload, inclination, apogaeum and perigaeum of or proposed orbits.

They're going for very small launches to LEO; they're probably targeting small scientific (NASA/ESA etc) payloads more than anything else. They're not really competing with Arianespace, SpaceX etc, whose major business involves launching multi-tonne payloads to GTO.

Correct, but both SpaceX and Arianespace have rideshares on their large launch vehicles. The Electron is competing with those rideshare opportunities. The current market rate for getting a 1U cubesat to LEO is about $100,000. They will also be competing with NanoRacks.

My impression is that rideshares can be fairly restrictive in terms of timing, available orbits, and so forth. This seems like it could be useful for small research payloads with odd requirements; not a huge market, but not non-existent. The ESA designed the Vega for smaller-than-Soyuz-2 payloads; this would seem to slot in nicely under the Vega.

Can a University fund another university, I doubt YC funding another YC. However, can PG fund/enable another YC? Maybe :).

Rock bottom always enables you to re-invent yourself. Take it as an opportunity to figure out more about family and other non-startup things about life. Work out what were your weaknesses, it will take time and be okay with that.

For me the first time fuck up (which was epic level, startup that I was working in crashed the middle of the recession) taught me that I had to make this holistic and a part of my lifestyle (building things, companies). Have a 7mo baby and a startup together now, can't think of doing anything else (and yes, shit does happen on and off).

Not too sure about that, I do think that pay wall tech has stalled for sometime now.

How does one charge for consuming content on the internet? We think that consumers can potentially see the goods(in this case the summary) before acquiring or buying it whole.

The high quality sites pretty much run on trust, the other long tail of sites that want to monetize have to cram in ads. Time to change that?

Well, we can replace the payment system with any other kinds. Facebook likes, tweets as a payment are as valid :)

Yeah, that may sound misleading without context. Its the algo we are in the process of patenting.

Please don't! Software patents are not good for our society and community.

We do agree, but its been tough trying to get the broad investor community to see value/ability without building fences around your core tech. Some even see this as validation. We don't.

Not too sure how others feel about this, this specific advice has come from fellow entrepreneurs who have managed to figure things out (i.e. raising, team, etc).

Sure, there have been a few apps and new algos in this space over the recent times. Though, we firmly feel that we have something that performs better and potentially open to more improvements due to the underlying algo!

Its been running for over 6 months :), ended up being a side project. We are running tokyo tyrant (disk based), so that has slowed down over time. Will tune that up!

As for the breaks and paragraphs, planning to add more logic when lines are picked up from different para. Thanks for the feedback!
