It goes further than this first order, though. If you're trying to build a business that attracts the types of talent who wants to know the stack up and down, starting with an AWS instance might give you a better shot at funding (and thus a better overall shot), but it's not clear that it gives you a shot a building the business you're aiming for. For the things that "don't make your beer better", sure, but we're talking about training ML models at an ML shop. Here it makes sense for this reason.

That last part is exactly it and I while I know the intro sentence nails it I don’t think compute resonates with people (everyone uses compute). If you are 24/7 running work at scale it absolutely makes sense past the initial first couple years to build out your own DC like this.

Don't think he is, but it does seem like he inspired a hacker mentality in the shop during his tenure.

There is a historical tide rolling in and out of presidential power. We’re currently in a high-power executive moment that began with the AUMF for Bush 2. The courts and Congress can act to curtail that authority somewhat and hopefully will. But a lot of the EO activity is ultimately just performative unconstitutional action that will be reversed, damaging as that process may be.

Presumably "hard to come by" would be somewhat irrelevant in any jurisdiction other than the US?

Running makes you look older, unfortunately.

Cycling too.

The standard being 20kgs under weight, skin baked like old leather, and a previously broken collar bone.

But, nothing beats it.

Wear sunscreen? It's necessary to not age fast if you go outside often. And moisturizer and retinol if you'd like too.

I wish it were that simple. I’m of Scottish and English genes. I wear spf 50 and still get burnt in the savage New Zealand sun.

I try to go early.

So this is why 30/40 yo track athletes look older than their age mates? Right.

Nonsense. Running at an Olympic level and pushing the boundaries of what we've evolved for might leave its mark. But that is not what is being talked about here.

Yes, in the worst case they will be super fast to churn. That's unless they just forget to unsubscribe and you end up with a charge back because the principal has no idea he ever even signed up for your product.

> “Their (ie the document’s) value stems from the discipline and the thinking the writer is forced to impose upon himself as [she] identifies and deals with trouble spots”.

Real quote

> "Hence their value stems from the discipline and the thinking the writer is forced to impose upon himself as he identifies and deals with trouble spots in his presentation."

I mean seriously?

Hah you had me until “best practices in the industry like context management through subagents, etc.”

> The only people who still read books for entertainment are women who prefer their porn to have DIY visuals. The stats back me up on this. If you’re tempted to disagree, go walk the aisles of Barnes & Noble.

I found this interesting. I have a young child who is a voracious reader. I thus often find myself at Barnes and Noble or the UK equivalent, Waterstones. These places are often quite busy and have rows and rows of books. It blows my mind that in the days of TikTok, YouTube and The Algorithm these places are solvent let alone successful? Are people today actually reading?

The author did not strike me as someone who actually goes to Barnes & Noble or the library very often.

60% of American adults say they read at least one book last year: https://today.yougov.com/entertainment/articles/53804-most-a...

That's more than 260 million people, and it doesn't include kids. I imagine a lot of the people in Barnes & Noble are kids or are shopping for their kids. I do also find it a bit surprising to find bookstores busy - I read a lot but it's nearly all ebooks or audiobooks, but if even a small percentage of readers like the feel of a physical book, that's enough to keep the stores full.

This would make some sense if VS Code didn't have a terminal built into it. The LLMs have the same bash capabilities in either form.
