"To spearhead the effort, Musk has been recruiting Igor Babuschkin, a researcher who recently left Alphabet’s DeepMind AI unit and specializes in the kind of machine-learning models that power chatbots like ChatGPT. In an interview, Babuschkin said building a chatbot with fewer content safeguards is not Musk’s objective."

I've since updated that number in Betabeat with the figure from tonight's NYT article, which says Uber planned to launch with 105 pre-registered cabs and plans to add 100 a week. (The initial, incorrect number was what I had when I broke the story this afternoon, and tried to confirm with Uber. Apologies for that.) Agreed though--it's going to be really interesting to watch, with each player having a corner of the market. There's also Taxi Magic.

I would pay $13 to watch "Timescape" in 3D.

If he's so anti-originality, he should have stolen Fabulous Fab for his nickname.

An entrepreneur can't have a better last name than Grinda.

Pronounced: "grinder"

Why do you think MongoDB is "fall"-ing?

@Riley Have you guys ever had a problem with someone scraping public OkCupid profiles?

Starting a dating site with fake or scraped profiles just makes it a ghost town. New members would leave quickly before you built up a real user base.

Not if you have bots messaging new members from fake accounts, and/or having them respond to queries.

Well, they'll still leave quickly, but they'll stay long enough for you to get their credit card info.

"But every new dating site faces the same problem: finding souls to mate." Just ask the new-and-improved Nerve.com!

PG: planning on hosting another YCNYC this year?

"Win because you promise more? That sounds like a government project." Ha, ding ding ding ding ding ding!

Yeah, the idea of knowing how to build in NYC was a big plus. There's actually still so many hoops to jump through still: the land use agreements, any remediation of the site, potential community benefits, etc.
