I agree. I'm not really sure about how much Europe will benefit but I can see other US cities becoming new tech hot spots in few years, not even in a decade. BTW, I tried writing to you via email mentioned in your profile.
As a someone who has never design the language or implemented a compiler, this seems to be on very very daunting task. Just wondering how much effort it requires and if someone like me - who has experience in developing software using high-level languages but not compilers - can implement it. It seems to be very interesting project and I would love to try something like this just for the sake of learning. I would really appreciate if someone can give me the pointers about where to begin with.
It is daunting, but getting started is actually straight forward. For instance, you could start by simply writing a domain language that translates your grammar via a tool like ANTLR or simply raw abstract syntax trees to C++.
It gets hard the more features you add to have a consistent experience and all the other tooling a language has (like debugging).
I find these problems fun and help in making you a better programmer, but the cost to be successful is immense.
@mar1, I've forwarded your interest in finding a job to our security recruiting lead. We don't have a relevant office in the desired location, but happy to discuss. Feel free to reach out, my email is dierks@google.com.

The "Design Versus Architectural Patterns" section is comes from the book "Pattern-Oriented Software Architecture". Other sections are cherry picked from books and videos.
The best part (for me) is that all sections have an estimated time you need to read / watch the content.
Do you feel that Safari Books Online is still going strong since being acquired by O'Reilly Media? I heard something about big layoffs last year. I'm pretty excited about trying it out but also wondering if it will be a stable learning resource well into the future.
I bought Autonomous' ErgoChair[1] couple of months ago but it got delivered in December 2016. I like it and It's lot cheaper than other options in the market.
Warning: KickStarter suspended their campaign [2] because they were reselling the product. You may also want to check this Reddit thread [3] before you make your mind.
I just got my ErgoChair in the first week of January after ordering it sometime around the end of October - right after it got removed from Kickstarter.
It's not as comfortable (less cushion) as my old $140 generic "manager" chair from amazon, but the finer grained adjustments and improved back support are a welcome upgrade. After about two weeks in the chair, I'm pretty happy with it. I never thought I'd appreciate a headrest, but it's great when watching longer videos. I wish the seat raised about 3-4 inches higher (I'm 6'6"). That old "manager" chair allowed a slightly higher seat, which I definitely preferred.
I also bought one of their sit/stand desks last year. I absolutely love it. I plan to get two more after I move next month.
I've always wanted to try one of the fancier adjustable chairs out there, but I can't seem to bring myself to spend that much on a chair. Both the desk and the chair are far less expensive than their respective competitors and are of better-than good-enough quality that I'm very happy with both purchases.
The only annoyance I've had with both have been exceptionally long shipping times (multiple months). When I emailed them about it, they were quick to respond with the approximate timeframe for shipping. That said, I recommended the desk to my mother a few months ago (a couple months after I got mine) and she got hers within a couple weeks.
I've moved our infrastructure over to GCE and basically just clicked around in the interface until I had what I wanted. It's really quite easy (although I'm only using compute engine and bigtable right now).
I got 300$ in credits on every google account when I first vistited which allowed me to play around with their big data stuff and some public datasets, which was nice.
