Not related to the article, but you have a very solid front end designer on board. Beautiful front page.

We actually have two of the best in Toronto. :)

Not exactly - ActionScript3 is pretty much as close as you can get to what JavaScript2 would have been - Ecmascript 4.

...yeah, what was to be a beautiful language. So unfortunate that that proposal was squashed.

No, thank Thor that mutant was aborted. ECMAScript 4 got everything wrong, just like AS3 did.

An optionally dynamic, yet also statically typed language? Umm... no. It's hard to even imagine arguing about this.

No. The problem with ES4 was that JavaScript is at heart not a traditional procedural OOP language. It's a functional language, and ES4 was trying to change that, a huge step in the wrong direction. They wanted more Java and less Script, but thankfully ES5 has gone the other direction, and given use more Script and less Java.

Has anybody seen a comparison of actual speech-to-text capabilities, preferably done in a proper manner (using speech recordings of different accents, etc)?

>Meanwhile, those other desktop operating systems were leapfrogging ahead.

I think this is quite fitting for how Flash is developing out of the spotlight now as well. I think that the Flash exodus - if it will mean less designers doing ridiculously processor intensive banners - ultimately is beneficial for the future of the technology itself.

Grant Skinner and his team are great but if I have understood it correctly Adobe is working on something similar at the moment where you would compile AS3 to js canvas calls (and more). What today are Flash tools could very well turn out to be the canvas dev environments that are sorely needed. Say what you will about the Flash Player but AS3 is a tidy language, very well suited for this kind of work..

You keep doing great work with Mockingbird! However, a few things keep me in Omnigraffle for now - the biggest issues I have is the lack of free drawing tools and/or a much larger library of components, icons etc. I would also put the ability to create interactivity within a page high on my wishlist - Omnigraffle does this (albeit crudely) with the ability to hide/show layers.

What ways would you envision for interactivity in addition to separate pages?

Realistically: The ability to show or hide objects on a page. This would make creating things like tooltips, lightboxes, dialogues etc. a lot easier.

Ideally: I would like components to match their actual behaviour more closely, e.g. a tab container would actually contain views in the respective tabs that would be shown or hidden depending on the tab selected. I know this is no easy feat - I have yet to find a wireframing tool that lets you infuse interactivity as easily as one would like to, and I have been through a lot of them.

We have plans to expand the available widgets and to let you make your own.

Am I correct in assuming this only works on h.264 encoded "Flash Video". Then there is no conversion going on - but a very smart solution that should make some money on what would be a relatively straightforward app to make.

I have been through so many of these tools - creating a really good wireframing/prototyping solution is obviously not a simple task..

Been looking for an alternative to Omnigraffle, mostly due to its lack in the prototyping department.

Really loved the way Mockingbird handled this but the nativeness and user community of Omnigraffle still makes it hard to beat..
