its hard enough to hire decent developers never mind decent go developers

i have been to a few of these and its well worth the trip

I have been to a few now and I live in NI

i have been waiting for this on youtube for years- i do not want to see the same video pre-roll i have already clicked skip on 30 or 40 times.

Being a technology company who are seen as leaders in personalised adverts you think they would over come this terrible user experience

Adblock Plus blocks those YouTube ads, it skips over them seamlessly, so you aren't aware they are there.

The "terrible user experience" which adds numbers to their impressions statistic each time you encounter it?

with so many startups and hackers in the room-

Setting aside 10 slots of 30 seconds (or min) each to pitch to the room on what they are working on may help people connect and find like minded people? kind of like show and tell..

I went to london specifically for the last- i live in northern ireland

We've had someone travel from France in the past! You should have told us in advance and we could have reserved a prime seat right up at the front for you.

... and probably saved you some pizza

being picked on by sanderson is not what i would have wanted...

whens the next hacker news meetup in london?

yes.. my first choice on that list would be Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Greatest engineer to come from Great Britain

it would be quite ironic to put george orwell on a currency note

As a web developer php type guy..

Things i have done to get work-

Network- attend tech conferences and talk to people

Blog about your area of interest

I ran google adwords on specific key terms, this helped to get a decent bulk of work with a 20x ROI

Over time your network will build up.
