Is there an under-supply of blood in rich countries to the point where people are dying as a result? If 1 regular donor stopped donating, how many additional people will die?
There's lack of supply of some rare blood types[1]. Also relevant to point out, if you go donating blood don't just go after some disaster hits. It's a common occurrence that tons of people show up for blood donations after some tragedy hits but blood can only be stored a limited amount of time and it tends to be wasted. If you want to donate, go regularly.
There are tons of women out there who are successful COOs. Just to name a few: Amy Bohutinsky, Belinda Johnson and Catherine Bessant--not to mention the all-time greats like Sheryl Sandberg.
If I were you, I'd try to learn from how these women overcame sexism like what you have faced, by watching or reading interviews with them. Or, you could even try to find COOs that could mentor you, by cold-emailing or finding them through your network. I'll bet there are lot of successful women out there who can find the time to at least take a 15 minute meeting with an up and coming female executive.
Long story short...it's 2021. We have tons of successful female COOs and of course it's possible for you to get a COO role if you can differentiate yourself from your competitors. It doesn't come easy for anyone to get a title like that, but it's absolutely possible.
I highly recommend OneRep (https://onerep.com/) as a service to remove you from these websites. I've been using it myself for a while and it has saved me a lot of headache.
Thanks for posting this. I do feel foolish that I didn't come across the relationship between OneRep and Nuwber myself. I hope other HN readers will see this and take this into account before they consider OneRep. I'll definitely consider deleting my account.
Checkout CircleBack which is a free tool that scrapes your email for contacts for you. Now look at their CEO. He also owns a data broker. I am sure he is selling the CircleBack data.
Most of the "free inquiry" that has been banned from universities is related to sensitive issues like race and gender. I don't see any universities out there restricting free inquiry on say, the sciences. Is there really that much social good that will come out of exploring racism and misogyny?
I started using the Mindset app the last time I read about it on HN, maybe a month or so ago. I've found it to be very useful--in addition to therapy, meditation and self-help videos on YouTube--in helping me fight some depression, low self-esteem and guilt that I've been trying to resolve. I hope that your app catches on and more people realize that "focusing sessions" can help them detach from work, social media, and their own toxic thoughts about themselves.
Two pieces of feedback for you though. First, once someone does a program, it seems that there are unlimited "reinforcement stages" where you repeat the program again to reinforce the learnings. It would be nice to cap the reinforcement stages at say, 3 stages, to encourage users to feel a sense of completion and either try the other programs or just repeat the whole program again. Second, I think a program centered around facing one's past would be really useful--at least, I'd use it. Other than that, I think the app is really well done, and congratulations to you and Michael Yapko on your hard work.
Yeah that's a great idea! I guess our thinking regarding the stages was to allow further progression if people wanted to keep listening longer than say 3 stages but allowing people to redo the entire program would accomplish the same while also allowing for that 'completion' feeling.
Thanks for the suggestion! We'll bring the idea up to Dr Yapko around developing some sessions for it.
