Nice to see Asterisk on the home page of HN. It’s been a while…

Even if the focus is now on hosted telephony, my experience is that everywhere you can hear the default nusic-on-hold

I don't mind music-on-hold as much except when they break with a human voice at intervals saying inane things such as "your call is important to us. Thank you for holding" Which makes me think the call has been answered. If there's not actual call queue information, just play music so I can ignore it and continue working without that NOP interrupt.

I guess the comment was just about how much Asterisk deployments are out there because you can often hear its default music-on-hold? But maybe I'm wrong.

thats funny, i interpreted this as "Hosted Asterisk People Sell a Default Experience" (and probably charge for custom messages) so its cool to see something different and marketable

“Close but no cigar?”

It is an interesting idea but not very useful at the moment

Like fitness where they want you to activate Fitness+. This means the one they are shipping is trash? Plus, thank you, I know where the App store is in case I need it

I understand this is meant as a demo of what Rama can do. As a potential user I am not keen on running a distributed system that is a black box and contains all of its data – how do I access it? How do I back it up?

It's not meant as just a demo of what Rama can do. It's a fully featured tool that supports the end-to-end workflow of building and maintaining robust LLM agents. It has an easy-to-learn API and you don't need to learn how to program Rama itself.

Rama isn't open source, but it's far from a black box. All data structures and computation are fully visible in the UI. You can inspect depots, topologies, and PStates, and see exactly what's stored and how it changes over time. Everything is also accessible through the Rama client API for direct querying. The PState schemas used by Agent-o-rama are defined here: https://github.com/redplanetlabs/agent-o-rama/blob/master/sr...

Backups are easy: you configure a “backup provider” (we provide one for S3) and a schedule for incremental backups. The free version can also be backed up with a short maintenance window. Full details are here: https://redplanetlabs.com/docs/~/backups.html

You can have the supervisor kill the linked process by sending a kill signal when it is being killed - see https://stackoverflow.com/questions/13909943/killing-a-proce...

Totally! Dont miss it.

I think the author has this wrong. Handling a ton of edge cases so I don’t have to do it myself is a good reason to use a library. Importing an endless tree of deps I have no control of - that is the issue.

In Italy tips are never required as are a part of what you pay for. You leave a tip for outstanding service if you want, but it’s neither mandated nor customary.

No one's saying they're required. When you say it's not customary, how do you reconcile that with it being printed as part of the bill?

If it is printed on the bill it is not a tip. You must be talking about "coperto", i.e. servics costs. This money does goes to the waiter.

Agreed. Super frustrating
