Hey all,

As an engineer and manager of teams for years, it’s gotten continually harder to manage incoming distractions from Slack messages.

I constantly get pinged in the middle of an important Zoom call, or when I’m deep in the flow working on some complex code refactor. Yeah, I could shut down Slack entirely - but it’s a negative signal to my team and I like popping into conversations when I’m taking a break. Slack Do Not Disturb should solve my problems, but I always forget to turn it on.

So, I built a way to do it all automatically.

Holopod (https://holopod.com) is a Mac desktop app that detects whitelisted Mac and Web applications and triggers a status change based on the current app you are using.

To signal you’re ready to work and online you are marked as “At My Desk”. Other statuses are “On Call”, “In the Flow”, or “in a meeting”. These are all customizable.

To pre-answer some questions you might have:

- We don’t track time on specific apps, only status changes are submitted up to Slack.

- We are free for now, as we’re still learning how best to deliver value.

- Yep, we are Mac only but are looking for early testers on Windows or Linux.

Would love your thoughts!

A recommendation for you: read more than a couple of words before clicking to another thread to hate on - "Setup Readibility integration to enable article previews."

Interesting - How does formatting work on the content stored in Dropbox? Is it just HTML on Dropbox or can it be markdown or even word docs with images, etc.

At the moment you can put in HTML or Markdown files. The formatting is handling by the sites theme, but you're welcome to add inline styles to the HTML files.

Eventually we'll add support for any kind of file that you can put in Dropbox.

Good question, thanks!

Oh, here's our documentation on using Dropbox with Postach.io:

In chrome dev tools if you have multiple lines of javascript you should take a look at 'Snippets' under the 'Sources'. It's quite a nice editor to run blocks code on the DOM when you need.

Don't apologize! Copy writing is hard and we're still trying to get our messaging right on this product. Being primarily developers we always fall into the trap of talking to other developers, we'll try harder to get better at this.

I'm one of the founders of Goodbits. Thanks for the note on this. We just wanted to share our story with this blog post and agree that it's not the right time to do a 'Show HN'. We didn't expect it to trigger any voting ring detector.

We can't open up to all users right now as we're making sure we don't create a tool for spammers, so we're letting in people slowly and making sure our vetting process works well.

Of course! I just wanted to invite you to submit this as a Show HN when the time is right.

All: because the front page has so few slots, we generally don't allow reposts within a year. It's in your interest to wait until your cool new thing can be posted as a "Show HN"—that is, as something people can play with—rather than when you're at the email-address-gathering (or crowdfunding) stage.

I thought the same and was going to mention something. Seeing 'Ferret' alongside search brought up bad experiences with that Ruby library.

But it looks like this Go library is not based on Lucene which the Ruby version one was and I don't think that Ruby version is maintained anymore so maybe it's not a problem to have the same name.

I saw that earlier today. I wonder how much of that just indicates how many developers are searching for help on the framework :)

Yea I definitely believe that's the # of searches. I, for one, bookmarked backbone's API and never had to search for it

Yep +1 on this. I started to look into implementing this on a project but we too are not ok with giving Github access.

On deploy posting the Gemfile is something that came to my mind too and would work.

Hey, I'm having issues with the app and tags.

When entering three tags the last one is missed, unless I press space again but then I get a page with an application error page. Looks like your url mapping is broken as it sends me to /stumble/tag1/tag2,tag3 not /stumble/tag1/tag2/tag3.

I went to your app because I am always using Pinboard to find related interesting things on the web or my network to see what my peers are saving.

Thanks for the bug report! I've uploaded a fix and if you clear your cache you should no longer have that problem.
