I strongly recommend together.ai, which allows you to use a lot of different open source models and charges for usage, not a monthly fee.


I bought a used Nissan Versa from Hertz and regretted it immensely. Not only did the CVT transmission go on me (it took a while for my year's class action lawsuit, but they did offer me ... $1k on a new Nissan. No thanks), but Hertz is terrible at their maintenance and uses the cheapest parts possible.

The only good thing about Teslas from Hertz is that there aren't any third party parts to cheap out on, but I still wouldn't trust a Tesla that was maintained by Hertz.


They've owned them for such a short period of time, and the maintenance on an EV is so much less, that may not be a big issue


Chrome is going to continue supporting v2 extensions for enterprise users, so presumably it'll be pretty trivial to keep support for everyone else.


Google says that's only going to last one additional year, not forever.


It's unclear if the planet will be habitable for the remainder of my lifetime, let alone any potential child's. As everything slowly gets worse, bringing a child into this world, for the sole purpose of ensuring there's someone to take care of me when I get older, is one of the most selfish acts I could imagine. Sounds like a lot of the world has made the same calculation.

An aside: is this something people really call up call centers for, for an apology? If I'm calling it's because I need something, or something is wrong and I need it fixed. I don't need a random call center person to apologize on behalf of a corporation. I just need my thing resolved.


A while back they were privately demoing ChromeOS alongside android on phones to enable a better desktop experience. They're also enabling display port on the new Pixel. My guess is they are making ChromeOS more like Android to make that process easier.


When Silicon Valley, particularly Apple, successfully got an antitrust case brought against Microsoft, it was because Apple and crew had more lobbyists in DC. Way more. It's not something that Microsoft had really worried about, so they were caught flat footed. After that case, Microsoft learned the lesson, and sent quite a few lobbyists. There will be no action in the US against Microsoft for the same reason there's been no action in the US against Apple. There will be the occasional case against any company in Silicon Valley when they're too overt about it, but they'll get a slap on the wrist and sent on their way to continue doing the same antitrust behavior. No one will ever reasonably suggest splitting them up again.


Are they not ad free with youtube premium? I pay for premium to not get ads in general, getting 3000 ad free movies is just a plus.


If you're running a community you want to actually grow, you don't have much of a choice besides be on discord. It's replaced both Facebook and Meetup for events and building Internet groups. Even open source projects moved to Discord. Is it more FOSS to use an open format? Yes, absolutely. But a Discord server is what any younger person will join, frictionlessly, from their phone.


There are numerous cases where stuff does not work in Windows. The difference is the support.

If your device doesn't work in Windows, there's usually a help line to call for it. They might give you the runaround for an hour, but they'll try to help you, and if they don't they might end up giving you a refund. Or you can take your computer to a tech support person, even Geek Squad at best buy. If you are technically illiterate, there are people to help you.

If your device doesn't work in Linux, it's probably not supported by any company. There are some linux distros that offer paid support, but people don't think to look for that. Even though your device is probably supported by Linux, Linux is not supported by the manufacturer, so if you have a problem, you're on your own. Your support is community support, reading forums and discords and github issues. Your only recourse is if you bought your computer from a Linux first company like System 76, but even then the support extends to the computer itself, not every random device you might buy without checking if it's supported on Linux.

There used to also be local support for Linux, in the form of Linux User Groups and Local Community Teams for Ubuntu. But as Linux got more popular, it stopped being a hobby, so the volunteer work (and corporate assistance in that volunteer work in Ubuntu's case) disappeared.
