Claiming the US is a third world country may make Europeans feel better about their place in the world but it has fuck all to do with reality.

Google invests significant effort into making iOS apps because they make more money from them than they do from Android.

Down voting does not change the facts.

Then explain why Google Maps are a no-choice for iOS?

P.S. Did not downvote you.

There should be a law that manufacturers have to take back their cheap tablets and phones for recycling so they don't end up a toxic pile in a landfill.

Why must there be a law? What major tablet market doesn't already have free electronics recycling available? In the US, most big-box electronics stores take items for recycling from any manufacturer. Given the very high price floors seen in used tablet markets (eBay, Craigslist, etc), I doubt all that many are being thrown out in the first place.

This is only because Apple basically invented the entire tablet market in 2010, just a few years ago.

This will change quite rapidly, starting approximately now, as various tablets begin to become more and more obsolete.

If a manufacturer is putting out virtually disposable electronics they should be on the hook for recycling them. Electronics are a horror show of toxic waste and that cost should be born by the source. 7" Android tablets go for as little as $30 on eBay.

I'm sure some EU state would give him a backrub.

It would be a crime anywhere, but not likely to receive a 10-year sentence. As far as I know, the only sentence approaching that length issued in Denmark for a non-violent crime in recent years was Stein Bagger, who was sentenced to 7 years for defrauding investors of about $250 million, then fleeing to Dubai. His sentence was that high because it was very clearly willful fraud on a large scale intended to enrich himself, and included a number of subsidiary elements such as invented degrees, faked financial information, tax fraud, etc.

You're being facetious, but you have to agree that even thought there is strict sentencing in the EU, America goes beyond the pale.

We have higher incarceration rates than China, and even with their massive population we have more people in prison than China does. [1](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_incarceration_rat...) We are roughly tied with North Korea for highest % of population in prison by country. [2](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_incarcerat...)

It makes me very angry that this known scumbag tries to associate himself with a true hero like Aaron Swartz, so in my opinion he is getting what he deserves, regardless of drug law incarcerations.

Look, in cases like this, we have to stick up for the scoundrels, because that's when the common behavior of the system is borne out. It's easy to make exceptions for a pretty face, but if you want real change you have to look at how it affects the worst people.

This has nothing to do with exceptions for a pretty face. If you cede the high ground then you are worse than nothing in terms of helping your cause, as has been born out through history over and over.

That is wishful thinking, the US dominates the internet now more than ever.

From the article you linked to:

> The attack didn’t defeat Apple's sandboxing technology otherwise they would have earned a lot more.

Also Google makes more money from iOS than Android.

Thank you raquo that worked like a charm. We now have them dead to rights. I will do a write up for HN at some point when everything is resolved. Simple and effective solution, thanks again.

Heh, awesome that it actually worked!

Movie production financed by self righteousness.

An individual raindrop doesn't noticeably change the rainfall totals but we still have flash floods.

How much effort would you be willing to invest in diverting a single raindrop? None of course. You wouldn't get yourself out of your chair to go divert a raindrop unless you thought you had a plan to divert lots of raindrops.

You could go outside with pots and pans to collect all the raindrops that you could, so that the water could be slowly released at a safer dryer time, but even those thousands or millions of raindrops wouldn't be worth the effort. If you had a bulldozer and found a strategically located ravine, you might actually bother to construct an earthen damn. That might actually make a difference.

>this is what modern imperialism looks like

Well that is a pretty tepid imperialism. If a country isn't willing to put their money where their mouth is then maybe they should be quiet.
