It's something I can get behind completely. People shouldn't be coddled like they're children, but if they act like one then being treated like one in return is the least one can do. =)
A lot of things about the iPad could use some tweaking and fixing up. That said, it's still better than everything else out there for "simple and ease of use" devices for the technically inept.
I'd like to ask why people think "copying apple" is a bad thing. They "copied microsoft" with how KDE looked before and now with a similar look with Gnome to OS X.
Good for them. At this rate Linux will have it's very own unified UI system in place sometime in 2020 and it will be better than both. For that, I can't wait!
(I never use sarcasm, just in case anyone was wondering)
I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't say copying Apple is a bad thing. I think copying Apple is a pretty decent way to design a UI if you're not good at it yourself. It is, of course more admirable to come up with a good, original design, but I'm happy about anything that results in a good user experience.
You didn't say it, but generally when it comes up that's the implication. So I took the next leap and went on the defense trying to turn it into something awesomer. =)
I haven't purchased one yet but had the opportunity to stop by the local store for a quick 30 minute demo. I was sold on the idea before even touching one and that quick session was enough to make it a rock solid deal (waiting for the 3G one).
The "tabs" on safari need an improvement. I instinctively tapped and held so I could reorganize them but they didn't budge. Still, it gets an 11 out of 10 stars in my book.
just kidding! What I'd like to see is this kind of code opened up so I can host it myself for fun. Writing a script to delete twitter "tweets" is easy enough in Bash but Facebook is another beast entirely :\
I second this one. If you have personal data on people, make sure backups are encrypted. Also, if you are dealing with medical records of any type, make sure you comply with the law.
