I agree with batista, if OS has no quality software .. then why on earth would I use that OS? Also, til Ubuntu can't support .PSD files with GIMP natively, I will never .. ever use it. And no, I do not want to use Wine emulator or whatever the hell you gotta do to get stuff working under Ubuntu.

Why don't you want to use it? Using Wine is as simple as double-clicking a Windows EXE and letting it install or run. It's no more difficult than using software on Windows (usually)

And sorry to nitpick, but WINE stands for "WINE Is Not an Emulator", because it isn't :)

I'm a long-time Ubuntu user, and I use Wine only when I absolutely have to, because it most definitely does not "just work". Case in point, GP was talking about Photoshop. This is from Wine's page for CS3:

First off: don't expect this to work well. Wine does not yet support Photoshop CS3. Only read these instructions if you feel like fiddling around, not if you expect to get a working Photoshop.

The other versions look in better shape, but still.

I am eternally grateful to the Humble Bundle folks for insisting on Linux support.

Yeah, I've used Ubuntu myself for a while. I'm aware of Wine's problems, I meant that for smaller applications it usually works.

I for one would vote for common sense, which would get rid of, say 1/3 of the entire planet's search queries. That amount of course is taken completely off the ceiling, but it get's my point across. That being said, if no one were searching, then no one would be finding. Searching is the thing that makes us learn, I mean, in a school library you also search for a book, right? No books are going to run into your lap by themselves. So, unless some of you geniuses have a way to fix that and make human race even more lazier, do let me know.

I'm sitting on Windows 7 machine and quite frankly I don't get the hate about it. It's beautiful, it runs programs and with those programs you can do work and view media. Heck, it even plays games (WOO, who knew right?). While there are parts that aren't really thought-through when it comes to UI design, it's still the best thing I can afford. Some day when I win a lottery, I'll try out a mac, but till then it's all Windows. And to those lovely linux freaks, the day you can run Adobe Fireworks / Illustrator / Photoshop without the hassle of Wine emulator, do let me know.

It seems to me that if you can buy Fireworks + Illustrator + Photoshop, the difference of price between a Mac and a PC shouldn't be a problem.

Not working on graphics enough to buy those softwares, I'm happy on linux.

I started out as many not-so-smart or very-smart people do with HTML & CSS. That was back in 2005 or so, which made me 13 years old. As of 2011 I am quite comfortable with PHP, JavaScript (and it's libraries). I've done some very small experiments with Python, Ruby on Rails & C++. That all being said, I have a crap ton to learn and I am nowhere near a professional level.
