i feel like 4chan has a good immune response to this disease.

Sociopaths stand away from it because it's too toxic to provide anything of value: rather, they build at its fringes (e.g. 9gag)

i disagree. to create tasty hot sauce, one must first create the universe.

30 years of side scrolling gaming history on computers. four arrow key options for movement. this person chose up and down to represent left and right.

user interface experience ( ) master ( ) proficient ( ) beginner (x) antagonistically counter-intuitive and user-unfriendly

You are wrong to judge his skills this harshly in this domain, he introduced the only thing you needed to know, and he stuck with it the whole way through.

It's unstated actions that have to be intuitive, but this page outright explains the only action required.

Nothing counter-intuitive or unfriendly here.

ah, yes. up is left. there's nothing counterintuitive about that.

up is left is not counter intuitive when you outright state it and its the only thing you have to keep in mind.

what do you think of my new intuitive keyboard layout: b is a and a is q and q is b!

i click and highlight and such out of boredom, similar to how i tap my fingers when waiting or thinking. if i click while a program is 'hanging,' it isn't out of frustration or expectation of a response. people actually do that for those reasons?

Nice for it being OSS and all that, but I had to edit XML just to reorder some layers.

Definitely not the same features and polish.

http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Layer_Dialog

inkscape shares many features with fireworks. it's a great alternative for a big chunk of similar applications.

That dialog only worked AFTER I edited the XML.

Bad news for tall kids.

This isn't "bad news" for tall kids. Essentially nothing has changed for them overall, they wouldn't see this message anyways. This is just possibly good news for the demographic of medium/short kids who may have the chance of seeing this, which is the whole purpose of this campaign.

I think this is a pretty common problem, people failing to realize that good news for one demographic isn't necessarily bad news for another.

i think a more common problem is people taking flippant comments way too seriously.

Fair enough. :)

that's a really impressive argument!

Interested in opportunities and connections. Currently employed by a structural engineering firm as a Revit modeler/drafter, Revit parametric programmer, pseudo-project-manager, Windows Server administrator, network administrator, and backup administrator. In my spare time I have been working through a couple of personal Django projects, which were designed using Inkscape and are being implemented on Debian/Xfce, using Geany, and VirtualEnv, Pip, git, etc. for development. I previously worked for a local web development shop as a designer/developer/pseudo-web-service-provider-admin using PHP, MySQL, Adobe Creative Suite, and such to design sites on top of Drupal for localish small to medium sized businesses. Quit because Drupal & sales guy making promises without consulting programmers.

Current job has no prospect for advancement. There is, ironically, no structure. Pay is not adequate for responsibilities and contributions. I work there because I like the people I work with, I learn a lot from my boss, and I enjoy a good amount of the work. I want to work somewhere else because a lack of freedom drives my motivation to live into the dirt, and sitting for 8-12 hours out of the day without windows is crushing my soul and sapping what's left of this short life.

I would likely have to work remotely, but I'm dedicated and loyal and have a conscience. The guy I work for now has admitted that he takes advantage of my desire to work well.

So, if anybody is interested in talking about prospects for a guy with the sort of experience I've indicated, feel free to contact me. The last (strictly design) job I did for University of Oklahoma was based on the premise that I would provide a design without any expectation for compensation unless they used the design. I was compensated, and the entire process was enjoyable and rewarding.

you can use scrabble word pattern searches to determine that there is only one english word that matches the pattern of the largest set of characters in this cypher. the rest falls into place from there.

can you elaborate ? longest word appears to be 9 letters which has a lot of matches.

http://www.design215.com/toolbox/wordpattern.php

it's a pattern search, not just a character count search. check the instructions and examples, they're pretty straight-forward.

wow. of course! that worked like a charm. this just made my week :)

It's nine letters, but there are repeats in specific places. Letters 1 and 6 are the same, 3 and 5 are the same, 4 and 9 are the same, limiting your options.

agreed but how can such a pattern be entered into a scrabble word finder?

No idea about that because I've never used one - I just rolled my own from python.
