I saw it going viral before going to bed last night and spent 15min trying to enable payments but failed so made it block you after 2 gens using cookies and try guilt you into donating instead. Made me $160 in donations compared to the $500 in AI credits burned so not a huge success but at least slightly offset the loss.
If the demand continues after this blip I’ll try add ads or make real payments work.
I've been thinking a lot over the past year about the tradeoff between optimising systems and making them more robust, so I decided to write my thoughts down.
The takeaway is spelled out with the headlines:
1. Efficiency tends to increase fragility
2. The exception is when systems are constantly destabilised (evolution creates anti-fragile systems due to constant destabilising forces during optimisation)
3. Our society is increasingly stable, and efficient, and therefore also increasingly fragile. This should be a cause for concern.
I knew the storyline I wanted roughly and used a lot of prompting and re-prompting and some editing to get what I was looking for. It was surprisingly hard to get GPT-4 to make the ending dark, the RLHF was very clearly steering it towards coming up with last minute changes of mind or plot twists that made the ending happy.
Nice work! This was very engaging. I could tell there was a human hand at work, though it’s extra spooky not knowing just how much has come from the machine.
Very well written. This is the future of human authorship. Humans paired with AI help make the best final text possible. I predict a controversy in the future where a famous author is outted for having used AI when claiming they didn’t. Like steroid use. Every author will do it now but some will lie about using.
Exploring the opposite: what do unfragile startups look like? I worked for one but the catch is it taking much longer, like decades, to grow to a unicorn, as it is run more like a business. Generally the growth is from reinvesting revenue not outside investors.
Yes exactly — a lean, bootstrapped startup is a much "safer" bet, but also has much more limited upside potential. There are still a few unicorns out there that took that path, or switched to being VC backed later in the game!
