You say "cult of personality".

I say "Great Founder Theory".

If it’s hiring whites that you’re fightin—you should sleep with King Triton.

Ok tankie.

Any books you'd recommend on the topics you discussed?

One man's troubling tone is another man's dystopic reality.

I read a comment on here months ago about someone who enabled a hotel chain to process the data coming from the motion activated lights in every hotel. The chain was able to track workers with this data and cracked down on people taking too long of breaks.

And now a personal anecdote. The business I used to work at had an ID badge door you had to use to enter the smoking area. I was told by someone I trusted that when layoffs came, a member of management asked for a list of the people that used that door. The people on that list were prioritized for termination.

"Universities are literally awash in data. From administrative data offering information about students, faculty and staff, to research data on professors’ scholarly activities and even telemetric signals"

Why are professors' telemetric signals even being discussed? Are publicly listed office hours not enough? My dogs got chipped without their consent. Do professors deserve more dignity than my dogs?

This is the problem. The data could be used for good: to improve the education being provided to the students, and to improve conditions for those working for the university, but history tells that most of the time it will end up being used against/at the expense of those same people and that there will be a much stronger profit incentive to do the wrong thing rather than the right one.

It has never made sense to me why Anglos allied with the Communists. It seems to me the Communists wanted Global Communism, while Hitler wanted a larger Germany.

America shouldn’t have allied with either of them. We are complicit to Soviet crimes as a nation.

A bigger Germany over something like 50 million dead Slavs, Jews and Gypsies - and this is even if they won?

Wtf

> while Hitler wanted a larger Germany.

I’ll take ridiculous oversimplifications for $200

I always thought Lebensraum and Generalplan Ost where mild euphemisms for industrial genocide...but "bigger Germany" makes them sound downright malicious in comparison. All Hitler wanted was a "bigger Germany", nbd. Save for the work of making room through ethnic cleansing.

I wonder if this is the result of being surrounded by so much marketing.

Coincidentally, I read an article in the Economist about male fertility that said 35 is when a man's sperm starts to become less effective. So, slightly less than full of life, I would say.

>Tantric sex and drugs where people are genuinely happy

That seems like vapid, temporary happiness to me. Like rockstar, Kurt Cobain, type happiness.

Kurt Cobain isn't typically who I would think of when prompted with the phrase "Rockstar Happiness"

Quite far from it. Have a read!

> Quite far from it. Have a read!

I've read it, along with his entire bibliography as Aldous Huxley has been my favorite author since I read Doors of Perception as 16 year old boy, and I think that both are still highlighting the pitfalls of centralized planning of Society as in the case within Brave New World.

To me both seem like a direct response to the perils outlined in Artic Hay, which is to say that effective centralized planning of Society and Human Organization can be successfully achieved provided you include the basic needs and wants of the Human Condition while catering to it's pleasure seeking nature to make one's servitude acceptable (include Genetic modification as in the case of BnW) all while omitting the need for strife, challenge, and adversity that makes something feel fulfilling for Humans: hence the story of the savage.
